The exquisite cuisine of Deff Haupt, Executive Chef of Renoir Restaurant at Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile,
demonstrates a passion for food, his experience around the world and his interest in various
cultures around the globe.
Deff started his career in Germany in 1983. In the early 90's, he had the privilege of working with
many of the most renowned Three-Star Michelin chefs in France such as Paul Bocuse, Joel Robuchon and
Emile Jung.
After France, he spent five years in Sao Paulo, first working at the prestigious restaurant Cantaloup,
acclaimed as the best restaurant in Brazil, and then at Leopolo, the most exclusive restaurant and
club in Sao Paulo. During that time, he trained the Brazilian team for the prestigious Bocuse d'Or
culinary award. He also created the First Class and Business Class menus for Varig Airlines.
Deff returned to Germany in 1999 as executive chef of the restaurant Theodor Tucher in Berlin,
where he had the pleasure of serving politicians such as George Bush and Bill Clinton, diplomats
such as Henry Kissinger, as well as international celebrities.
Deff has been the Executive Chef of the Renoir at Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile since 2006. He creates colourful,
impeccable and flavourful dishes. His creativity takes you on a journey around the world with each dish.
He is a master at highlighting the best in Quebec products with a French touch and invites you to
enjoy a memorable experience at Renoir, critically acclaimed as one of the best restaurants in Montreal.
In October 2008, Chef Deff Haupt was awarded the bronze medal (Montreal region) during the Gold Medal
Plates competition, a celebration of Canadian excellence in the fields of the culinary arts, the
wine industry and sports achievement.
Lately, his cuisine was recognized by the 2009 best restaurant award delivered by Guide Debeur.
